No. 2 in the GFF/WHO Health Financing and PHC Webinar Series

Today, nearly 85% of the Tunisian population is covered, at least in part, for its healthcare needs. This is achieved through a social health protection system combining both contributory and non-contributory schemes.

This achievement, among the most impressive on the continent, is the result of a long-term historical process, which has developed in phases, at a pace dependent on the country's economic and political situation. It also conceals certain setbacks and challenges, particularly in terms of financial protection, with Tunisia having one of the highest levels of catastrophic expenditure in the region.

It is the stages of this process that we propose to dissect in this webinar, thanks to the participation of Dr. Benabbes. Dr. Benabbes was, from the end of the 1990s, one of the architects of the health insurance reforms initiated in the 1970s.

Then, with the support of experts from Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire, we will endeavor to draw lessons from this experience that can inform the progress of other African countries in their progression towards UHC.
